About unscrbl

Who we are & how it works

unscrbl is a free word unscrambler built around one idea: type your letters, get every valid English word — instantly, with zero friction. No signup, no app to install, no "premium" paywall over basic results. Paste up to a rack's worth of letters and every word they can form appears in a fraction of a second, sorted longest first.

How it works

The whole tool runs entirely in your browser. The dictionary of real English words loads with the page, and the unscrambling happens on your device — your letters are never sent to a server. That has two nice consequences:

The word list covers standard English words, including the short, strange, high-scoring ones word games are famous for (QI, ZA, XU and friends). Specific games use their own official dictionaries, so an occasional word may differ from what your app accepts — always check your game's built-in dictionary for tournament-grade certainty.

Is it cheating?

Our honest take: it's a tool, and tools are what you make of them. Used mid-game against an unsuspecting friend — that's between you and your conscience. Used to settle disputes, study missed plays, learn two-letter words, or get unstuck on a puzzle you'd otherwise abandon — it makes you genuinely better at word games. That second use is why we built it, and why our guides focus on teaching the skill, not replacing it.

The guides

Around the tool we maintain a growing library of word-game guides — Scrabble strategy, Wordle openers, the science of anagrams, and reference lists like every two-letter word. They're written to give concrete, accurate answers, and we update them as game dictionaries evolve.

Who's behind it

unscrbl is built and maintained by Steady Apps, a small independent studio making focused, no-nonsense web tools. The site is supported by unobtrusive advertising; the tool itself is free for everyone, always. Questions or ideas? See the contact page — we read every message.
